DIRECTOR
JERSEY’S HOMELESSNESS CHARITY – SHELTER TRUST
An exciting opportunity to lead Jersey’s principal homelessness charity.
Shelter Trust is Jersey’s leading homelessness charity, providing accommodation and practical support to people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. Shelter supports individuals on a pathway to independence through safe accommodation, advocacy and day-to-day services.
Shelter operates across seven sites in St Helier, providing 117 units of accommodation to people of all genders. Services include emergency accommodation, a designated women-only service, and provision for young people aged 16–25. In addition, Shelter provides meals, washing and laundry facilities, food parcels and outreach support to anyone in need.
THE ROLE
This is a pivotal leadership role, following the retirement of Shelter’s long-standing Director.
The Director will be responsible for:
- Continuing and building upon the outstanding work of the current Director
- Leading the development and delivery of Shelter’s strategy, taking account of economic, social and housing-sector developments
- Ensuring the organisation’s long-term financial sustainability through prudent financial management
- Working closely with Trustees on fundraising initiatives and increasing awareness of Shelter’s wide range of services
- Representing Shelter in liaison with Government and contributing to homelessness strategy at an island-wide level
- Leading, supporting and developing Shelter’s committed staff team
- Working in partnership with multiple agencies, statutory bodies and other charities
ABOUT YOU
You will be a values-driven and experienced leader, with a strong track record in organisational leadership, stakeholder engagement and financial oversight. You will bring strategic insight, empathy and resilience, and be motivated by making a tangible difference to the lives of vulnerable people.
Experience within the charity, public or housing sectors would be advantageous, though not essential.
