Jail to Bail - 'Free the St Helier 12'

Nick Cameron, The Governor and Head of States of Jersey Prison Service came up with this fundraising event having seen something similar in the UK, and so teamed up with The Shelter Trust to run this first ever 'Jail to Bail', which took place on the 13th February.

The following members of 'The St Helier 12' listed below, were sentenced at the Old Magistrate's Court and imprisoned at La Moye Prison for 24 hours.

Peter James - Crime Author

Constable Len Norman - Minister for Home Affairs

Robin Smith - Chief of Police

Gavin Reid - Managing Director, Randalls

Nigel Campbell: CEO of Mercury Distribution

Reverend Canon Geoff Houghton - Vice Dean of Jersey and Trustee of The Shelter Trust

Amy Bryant - Deputy Chief Executive of Jersey Finance

Nigel Hair - Chief Operating Officer, HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man

Mark Egan - Greffier of the States

John Kelleher - Chairman, Carey Olsen

Jack Maguire - Jersey Evening Post, Deputy News Editor

Simon Boas - Executive Director, Jersey Overseas Aid

Each of the St Helier 12 had to raise at least £2,000 in 'bail money' for the Shelter Trust before their release on the 14th February.  In order to do this, they appealed to the public of Jersey to donate money via The Shelter Trust JustGiving page.

On behalf of The Shelter Trust, we would like to say a massive thank you to The ‘St Helier 12’ for raising so much money and for raising awareness.Around £26,000 has been raised.
