2025 Soup Kitchen, Tuesday 09 December
12th November 2025
SAVE THE DATE: The Shelter Trust’s 27th Annual Soup Kitchen returns to Royal Square, St Helier
The Shelter Trust is delighted to announce that its much-loved annual Soup Kitchen will return this year for its 27th consecutive edition, welcoming Islanders, businesses, schools and community groups to come together and support Jersey’s homeless community. Taking place on Tuesday 09 December from 10.30am until the soup runs out at the Royal Square, people are invited to make a minimum donation of £3 for a mug of delicious soup and a chunk of buttered French bread.
Over the past 26 years the event has become a key fixture in the Island’s charitable calendar, raising in excess of £270,000+ to date. This year’s edition is proudly supported by LGT Wealth Management, marking their 10th year of sponsorship. Their continued commitment underscores the important role of local business in supporting community causes.
This year’s event requested local hospitality partners, hotels, restaurants and community groups to contribute their signature soups, with approximately 40 different varieties expected, and bread kindly donated by Island bakeries. The event's longstanding tradition of live school and community choir performances will again echo across the square, creating a festive, community-spirited atmosphere.
Funds raised on the day go directly to The Shelter Trust’s services. Every night, around 100 people are supported through Shelter’s accommodation services across seven sites in and around St Helier. Stay tuned for full menu details, participating chefs and school/community choir line-up to be released shortly. The Shelter Trust is grateful to all supporting organisations, and in particular to event sponsors LGT Wealth Management, who are long-term supporters of the Trust’s Soup Kitchen and, for a second year, have generously covered all financial costs of the Tinathon.
Mike Powell, Chair of Trustees, said: “The Soup Kitchen is a wonderful reminder of Jersey’s generosity and sense of community. Every bowl of soup served helps us provide warmth, food, and shelter to those who need it most, particularly through the cold winter months. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who contributes, from our sponsors and chefs to the volunteers and Islanders who turn up year after year to show their support.”
Dan McAlister, CEO of LGT Wealth Management said, “We are proud to continue our support for the Soup Kitchen for the 10th consecutive year. This fantastic event highlights the important work of the Shelter Trust and the strength and generosity of our Jersey community.”
