Strathmore - "The New St. James Street"

The Shelter Trust has now opened its newly refurbished facility in St. Marks Road and the staff and residents of the St. James Project have all relocated.

Click Here for the CTV news report on the new unit at Strathmore when it opened.

The impressive period frontage of the building makes it easily recognisable on St. Marks Road.

At Strathmore the staff team work with individual residents to address their support needs from learning basic independent living skills through to accessing training and employment. Residents and staff work together on the individual's needs assessment and agree support plans that aim to create a pathway to independent living.

Purpose: To provide safe, high-support, medium-term accommodation for homeless adults.

Accommodation: 19 persons (singles or couples) in 16 rooms. Staff on duty 24hrs. Dining, laundry and some bathroom  facilities are shared (some showers are en suite).

Services: Assessment, key working, advocacy, supported access to services (housing, drug and alcohol, counselling, mental health, community bank), life skills coaching, employment and training advice, meals, laundry,

Access: Referral by individual or agency.

Some of the period features continue inside the building now that the restoration project is complete.

The newer additions to the building might not have the elegance of the original Victorian building but they do give us so much badly needed space.

The accommodation in the building is nicely proportioned. The residents will have their own room and there will be accommodation for couples. All accommodation will be furnished.

And finally, our visitors should be happy with onsite parking.
